With summer approaching, many of us are eagerly awaiting those moments to lay our towels in the sun, seeking that tan that flatters us so much.
However, while the sun is essential for life and provides many benefits to our bodies, excessive exposure to solar radiation without precautions can cause significant damage to our skin, such as spots, wrinkles, uneven pigmentation, burns, or even skin cancer.
These damages can be avoided by taking certain precautions.
Before exposure…
- Do not apply products that may contain alcohol or perfumes, as they can cause skin discoloration.
- If you take any medication, check if it can cause photosensitization.
- Avoid waxing or shaving at the last minute, as it leaves the skin sensitive.
- Watch out for bruises. It is advisable to cover them to prevent exposure.
- Cleanse your skin and remove any makeup residues.
- Apply sunscreen with a protection factor appropriate to your skin type and level of tanning at least 30 minutes before exposure. A product with at least SPF 30 or higher should be used.
During exposure…
- Reapply sunscreen every 2 hours or after swimming.
- Drink plenty of water.
- Avoid peak sun hours between 12:00 and 16:00.
- Wear sunglasses with UV protection.
- Remember that clouds may reduce the feeling of heat, but UV radiation is still active.
After exposure…
- Take a shower to remove any traces of salt, chlorine, etc.
- Apply after-sun products, especially on sensitive or reddened skin.
- Hydrate your skin with a good moisturizing product.
- Get regular check-ups with a specialist.
